Ryder Cup Rental Accommodation

Posted March 18, 2011 by in Blog | No comments yet

The Ryder Cup is golf’s most prestigious event. It is held every two years and alternates between the UK and the USA. In 2012 it is the turn of the Medinah County Club in Illinois to host. For such a prestigious event the hosting club almost always upgrades and adds additional features. 2012 is no exception and $1.5 has been spent on redesigning course no 3.

Tickets for this event are always in high demand. So high, in fact, that they are usually issued by ballot as this is deemed to be a fair way of ensuring as wide a selection of people as possible have access to tickets.

For many people, visiting the Ryder Cup is a not to be missed experience, one that they save up for and look forward to for many years. The UK and USA’s top golfers take part, and fans and golf lovers travel thousands of miles for the privilege of attending the event.

All these visitors need accommodation. Many people will stay in a hotel, but many travel in groups, or bring their non golfing family and friends to make the most of the break. The event lasts for a total of six days, beginning with practice days before moving on to the real competition. Many visitors, especially those who travelled a long way, like to stay for the whole event.

Staying in a hotel is an expensive option if you are a large group and can be inconvenient if your non-golfing family wants to enjoy a lazy day at home, or the children need to go to bed early. A better option, and one which gives you far more freedom is to rent a home close to the course. This is where you come in.

Do you own a home close to Medinah Country Club?

If you do then why not consider renting out your home for the duration of the Ryder Cup? It doesn’t matter what size your house is. A couple might only want a one bedroom apartment. A larger group might be looking for a home with 4 or 5 bedrooms. What matters is how close you are to the venue. The closer you are to the venue, the more likely you are to be able to rent your home. And people book well in advance. Not everyone waits to see if they are successful in the ballot. Desirable properties will be rented by dedicated Ryder Cup fans – who know that if they are not granted tickets in the ballot, they can always purchase tickets online.

Ryder Cup – A Brief History

Posted November 5, 2010 by in Blog | No comments yet

The Ryder Cup is one of the golfing world’s most prestigious tournaments.  It takes place every two years and alternates between being held in the USA and the UK.

The Ryder Cup had humble origins, beginning as an unofficial, occasional match between teams from the USA and the UK until, in 1927, Samuel Ryder agreed to sponsor the match and turn it into an official event.

Samuel Ryder was born in 1858 in Manchester (UK), the son of a successful corn merchant.  He soon decided to set up in business on his own, moving south to the town of St Albans and setting up a seed company.  His business was successful and in 1906 he was elected mayor of St Albans.

He took up golf after becoming ill due to overwork – fresh air and light exercise were prescribed.  Ryder took learning to play golf seriously – enlisting the help of British golfing star Abe Mitchell as his tutor.  He played six days a week, his handicap quickly reaching 6.  He decided to apply for membership of the Verulam golf club in St Albans.

He was a spectator at the unofficial 1926 match between the USA and UK, where his tutor Mitchell and partner defeated the American pair.  Over a few drinks in the pub after the match, Ryder agreed to help make the event an official one. He commissioned a gold cup from the prestigious company of Mappin and Webb and the Ryder Cup was born.  The first official match was held in 1927 at the Worcester Country Club in Massachusetts.

The Ryder Cup attracts thousands of spectators from both sides of the Atlantic with tickets being issued using a ballot system.

The 15th hole of  No. 3 course was reduced in length by 100 yards and a new, 2 acre lake was added on the right side of the fairway and green.
